It honestly feels like the whole world has agreed on one thing: Germans are rude.

Whenever I see street interviews on TikTok asking people to name the rudest nationalities, Germans are almost always the first ones mentioned — basically taking the number one spot for the rudest people in the world. And as someone who was born and raised in Germany, I’m always like… damn. Are we really that bad? 😭

And the funny thing is: Even Germans themselves probably wouldn’t agree on the answer. Some would say, “Yeah… I totally understand why people think that.” Others would strongly disagree.

Me? I would say: Yes and no.

Because I completely understand why Germans can come across as rude, cold or even mean — but what’s actually behind that “rudeness” is often something completely different.

So in today’s episode, we’re looking at YOUR real-life experiences with Germans. I’m reacting to your comments and stories about moments where a German made you think: Why are these people so mean?! 😭

But I’ll also give you the German perspective: Why did that person react like that? What did they actually mean? And where does this behavior culturally and historically come from?

Basically: Are Germans actually rude… or are we all just misunderstanding each other?

The German Stare has become a worldwide phenomenon – and not without reason. 👀

Have you ever been sitting on a train in Germany when someone just stared at you for a crazy long time, leaving you wondering: WHY?!

Or maybe you’ve accidentally found yourself in a staring contest because some random person wouldn’t stop looking at you, so you stared back… only to eventually lose the battle?

And did all of this happen in Germany, by any chance? Yep. Then you’ve most likely experienced the infamous German Stare live and in action. 👀

I regularly make comedy videos about the German Stare, and they get thousands of comments – especially from people who aren’t from Germany and are equally shocked, traumatized, confused, and fascinated by this phenomenon.

And there’s one question I get asked over and over again: What is up with the German Stare? Why do Germans stare so much?

In today’s episode, we’re getting to the bottom of the German Stare: Where does it come from? Why is it so noticeable to people from other countries? What’s myth and what’s reality? Are Germans really more devastated when a dog dies than when a person dies? 🐶💔
This question came up after I posted a comedy video on TikTok about the way Germans supposedly react to the death of people versus dogs. The video went viral — and the comments were wild.
Some people were like: “YES. This is exactly how it is in Germany!” Others strongly disagreed: “Of course I would grieve more for a person than for a dog.”
So in this episode, we’re taking a closer look: Are dogs actually more important than people in Germany? Or are we simply dealing with cultural differences in the way we understand grief, loss, and emotional expression?
We’ll look at how different countries and cultures deal with the death of pets versus humans, why the death of a dog can sometimes receive an incredible amount of sympathy in Germany, while grief over the loss of a person can feel surprisingly private or even taboo.
I’ll also share some of my own experiences and everyday situations in Germany where I’ve noticed this difference — and, of course, we’ll dive into your comments from the viral TikTok.
We’ll hear from both sides: the people who say, “I absolutely grieve more when I lose a dog,” and those who say, “Sorry, but a human being will always matter more to me.”
