This week, Josh and Drusilla watched the very cozy Burnt Offerings. From wiki: “Burnt Offerings (Italian: Ballata macabra, lit. 'Macabre ballad') is a 1976 supernatural horror film co-written and directed by Dan Curtis and starring Karen Black, Oliver Reed, Bette Davis, and Lee H. Montgomery, with Eileen Heckart, Burgess Meredith and Anthony James in supporting roles. It is based on the 1973 novel by Robert Marasco.[7] The plot follows a family which begins to interpersonally dissolve under supernatural forces in a large estate they have rented for the summer. The film's title derives from the Book of Leviticus, referring to a "sacrifice by fire" and a "gift offered to God."[8]

For Memorial Day, Josh and Drusilla discuss David Lynch’s 2001 masterpiece, Mulholland Drive. From wiki: “Mulholland Drive[b] is a 2001 mystery film written and directed by David Lynch. Its narrative is characterized by surrealist and neo-noir elements, and follows an aspiring actress (Naomi Watts) newly arrived in Los Angeles, where she befriends a car crash victim (Laura Harring) who is suffering from amnesia. Meanwhile, a Hollywood director (Justin Theroux) must deal with interference from the criminal underworld while casting his latest film.”

Drusilla and Josh discuss Osgood Perkins’ new cult classic, Longlegs. From wiki: “Longlegs is a 2024 American mystery horror film written and directed by Osgood Perkins. The film stars Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, and Nicolas Cage. Set in the 1990s, the story follows a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent assigned to hunt down an occult-obsessed serial killer responsible for a string of family murders across Oregon. The killer is dubbed Longlegs, and baffles the FBI with his perfect ability to seemingly leave zero trace of involvement at the crime scenes.”

Set in October 1988, the film follows Donnie Darko (Gyllenhaal), a troubled teenager who inadvertently escapes a bizarre accident by sleepwalking. He has visions of Frank, a mysterious figure in a rabbit costume who informs him that the world will end in 28 days.”

From wiki: “Angel's Egg (Japanese: 天使のたまご, Hepburn: Tenshi no Tamago) is a Japanese animated experimental post-apocalyptic science fantasy OVA film written and directed by Mamoru Oshii.[2] Released by Tokuma Shoten on 15 December 1985,[3] the film was a collaboration between artist Yoshitaka Amano and Oshii. The film stars two nameless characters, a young girl who protects an egg, who bonds with a boy who has a dream about a bird.[4] It was the first original project by Oshii and carries themes found in his other works.[5]”
