Hannah Arendt once wrote that “the raison d’être of politics is freedom, and its field of experience is action”, and yeah, that’s kind of the core message of Star Wars, isn't it?
We’ll admit that your hosts here at Andorks haven’t read enough Arendt. So that’s why we’re so lucky to be joined by this week’s guest, professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Ramzi Fawaz, to walk us through Arendt's work – and other great political thinkers – and how they intersect with the liberatory politics of ANDOR.
Together we continue through Season 1, Episode 10 “One Way Out”, where we finally get to meet Davo Sculden face-to-face, check in on Luthen and Kleya, and return to Narkina 5 as the prisoners brace themselves for the fight of their lives – all with extremely insightful analysis from our guest along the way!

“Mad but real.”
That's how Tony Gilroy described his goal for ANDOR in his original manifesto for the series. It's one of the many, many, many, insights included in the newly released book "The Art of Star Wars: Andor" by Phil Szostak. We originally had different plans for this Detour, but once we cracked this big boy open, we knew we had to detour from the detour and talk to you about our first impressions.
We find a treasure trove of original plans for the series, better understand how much the pandemic and the Hollywood strikes impacted production, get some validation that some of our bonkers theories weren’t so bonkers, obsess over Tony Gilroy’s repeated use of the word “funk”, finally get some answers on the scarcity of alien freaks in season 1, and so much more!

There we’re forced to say farewell to a very crotchety friend – and see the final push that leads Kino Loy to rebellion.
