The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed.

This week's episode is a deep dive into one particular order of Monks within the world of Eora. Monks in this world use pain as a way to embolden their soul to perform the superhuman feats you see in the game; and in the lore, some monks have interesting approaches to how they utilize that pain to achieve "enlightenment".

This week's episode focuses on Quarterstaves and Rods, both are weapons we see in the Pillars of Eternity games. I'm focusing on them because the next weapon to be updated into Avowed in February is apparently a quarterstaff, but also might be related to magic. So to cover both bases I'm talking about both today.

This episode features lore found in two unique weapons, and a bit of a dive into the Concelhaut spell "Parasitic Staff".

This week is an unorthodox episode. I don't discuss a lore topic so much as I discuss a form of roleplaying in video games that I've enjoyed since I was a youth. At the time I didn't have a name for it, but as I grew I began calling it "algorithmic roleplaying", which some have asked me about. This week we conclude our look at the Knights of the Crucible, which we overviewed last week. First encountered in Pillars of Eternity, they are one of three main quest factions that you can engage with to gain clout within the city of Defiance Bay. They began as Blacksmiths trained in Combat, and were instrumental in the War of Defiance. A war which garnered the Dyrwood's independence from their mother nation, Aedyr. I'm joining a new podcast! "Party Banter: an RPG Podcast" (we might work on the subtitle as we go).
It's the crew of the now defunct "Avowedcast" continuing to get together, but now to discuss RPGs in general, the industry as a whole, and design elements in our favourite games.

This week is an oddity.
Recently, as some of you are aware, the show Avowedcast shut down, which has been a staple within the community for a while.
While that show has shut down, the rest of the Avowedcast crew decided we wanted to continue podcasting, and so we began our own show "Party Banter", befitting our style and casual nature.
Since it's a new project, and one I'm heavily involved in, I figured it appropriate to feature here on this feed. Don't worry it's not going to take up precious lore episodes, and I'll make sure to have a fresh batch of lore for you as soon as possible.
