Conan the Barbarian is a legitimately great movie. Its sequel, Conan the Destroyer, is often dismissed as the vastly inferior follow-up—and while Barbarian is indeed the stronger film, don’t get it twisted. Destroyer is still a legitimate, bad-ass fantasy adventure that’s more than worthy of the Conan name.
The production design is fantastic, immersing you fully in Conan’s savage world. Add in a fun D&D-style quest, an underrated but magnetic performance from Wilt Chamberlain as Bombaata, and the scene-stealing energy of Grace Jones as Zula, and you’ve got a thoroughly entertaining, kick-ass sword-and-sorcery flick. If you’re a fan of fantasy—or especially if you’re already a Conan fan—it’s well worth watching.
