Holmes is pursuing a promising lead in the case of the stolen Bruce-Partington submarine plans and murder of Arthur Cadogan West. Holmes's investigation into the death of Arthur Cadogan West and the theft of the plans for the Bruce-Partington submarine is in full swing, as Holmes, Watson and Inspector Lestrade make their way to Aldgate Station to determine how Cadogan West was killed. After that, it's off to question some of the key witnesses, where Holmes and Watson soon discover there has been yet another mysterious death: government expert Sir James Walter, who was originally in possession of the plans. Holmes is sure it's all connected; the only challenge is determining how. A fog has descended upon London, both literally and figuratively, as Sherlock Holmes cannot find a single criminal case to excite his interest. An unexpected telegram from his brother Mycroft shakes Sherlock out of his boredom, however, as it promises to be a case that will finally challenge his intellect. It's serious enough that Mycroft upsets his routine and comes to Baker Street himself, along with Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard. A young man named Arthur Cadogan West has been murdered on the Underground, and he was carrying top-secret government documents that are now missing. Sherlock Holmes is the only one who can solve the case, so he and Watson prepare to set off on a new investigation. Sherlock Holmes has a new client. He's been visited by Mrs. Warren, a landlady with a new lodger that who is behaving very suspiciously. Since renting her rooms, he's nowhere to be seen, and only communicates via printed notes left outside the front door of the room. Mrs. Warren is convinced that something isn't right, and has enlisted the help of Sherlock Holmes to find out exactly what is going on.
