The film follows Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum), a former Army paratrooper and struggling father who develops a unique criminal niche: robbing McDonald's restaurants by cutting holes through their roofs. Despite his crimes, he becomes a minor folk hero known for his bizarrely polite demeanor—often treating his victims with kindness and even making sure they have their coats before locking them in freezers.

After eventually being caught and sentenced to decades in prison, Jeffrey orchestrates a daring escape. On the run and with nowhere to go, he finds the ultimate urban hideout: a Toys "R" Us store.

Living undetected within the store's walls for months, Jeffrey survives on baby food and candy while turning the retail space into his personal playground after hours. However, his secret life becomes complicated when he falls for Leigh(Kirsten Dunst), a single mother and store employee. As he attempts to forge a new identity and play the role of a stable partner, the walls of his makeshift home—and his past—begin to close in on him.
