Episode 119
Levack’s semi-autobiographical Mile End Kicks stars Euphoria’s Barbie Ferreira and is a raw-nerve portrait of a young writer finding her voice in Montreal’s iconic Mile End—a hub of sex, drugs, and a burgeoning music scene (Arcade Fire, Grimes, and TOPS). In Mile End Kicks, she captures the anxieties of young adulthood with echoes of timeless classics like Almost Famous and Reality Bites.
Roommates, her first studio feature, boasts an ensemble cast including Sadie Sandler, Chloe East, Sarah Sherman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, Janeane Garofalo, and more. The film elevates the traditional college freshman comedy, following two unlikely friends in a story that is relatable, funny, and poignant—a fresh take on the coming-of-age genre. Sadie worked closely with Chandler on the soundtrack and even received an associate music supervisor credit on the film.
Before transitioning to filmmaking, Levack wrote for publications including SPIN, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, and The Village Voice, covering music and arts. She began directing music videos before making her debut feature, I Like Movies. Across her work, she demonstrates a distinct ability to balance humor, pathos, and style.
