Another summer long weekend, another edition of The Cottage Mix Series! Moving along the flow of a cottage weekend, we're going from the Saturday Afternoon Edition last month to the Saturday Night Edition this month! This was recorded at a yacht club season opening party, so it's probably the most mainstream / mobile dj mix you're gonna hear from me here on the Soul Shack page, very similar to what you'd hear if I was djing a wedding (which I have 5 this upcoming month!).

This was recorded at a Corporate Cocktail event back at the beginning of June, and the fresh arrival of summer weather definitely influenced the musical selections, making the recording perfect for the "fun in the sun" vibe of the Saturday Afternoon Edition!

The Cottage Mix Series was back in full swing for 2025! For the Canada Day long weekend we're starting with the Friday Night Edition (same as in 2023, it's a live recording from a "Retro Attic" weekly event I filled in for, so nothing newer than 10yrs old). I've got a Saturday Afternoon edition recorded at a corporate and a Saturday night edition recorded at the RCYC season launch and just last night I recorded a "Retro 80's edition" of a Summer Home In Mykonos, so I just need to decide what mix to use for a Sunday Morning edition!

As much as I'm sitting on a pile of recordings to use for Soul Shack episodes, after I finished my set Friday night at Mansion, I was like "I should use this as a Soul Shack Mix". It's quite the musical journey - Beginning of the night is always just for me, and this time it involved the new Little Simz track Free, a small set of jungle remixes and of course at least one Sade track for the head bouncer, but then I went into (my version of) party mode, doing my best to rock the party, but with a mature Soul Shack influence, and trying to avoid most of the super cheesy and cliche sing along stuff (there's still a little bit though) and then finished off with a few classic house tracks. I felt like with me posting this mix the day after my birthday (on Mixcloud), it only made sense to use a recording that I named "Jamie's gift to himself". It's a live recording from my monthly at Clockwork, but this was the day after djing a set at Alvaro G's "Forty Nine" party, where I wanted to keep playing proper house music... so that's exactly what I did the next day at Clockwork! While recording, I had 2 people come up to compliment the music. When I asked if they were visiting or local, they were both locals, and when I asked a follow up, I already knew the answer - "did you used to go to Roxy Blu?", and of course they both said yes. So if you want to hear my personal taste in house music (heavily weighted with classics from the late 90's/early 00's), hit play now!
