Flip The Lid orbit. With progressive as the starting point, the compilation moves across a spectrum of
influences and sounds, from driving, uplifting grooves and trance-tinged euphoria to tech house
rollers, acid-fuelled energy, deep tribal rhythms and big-room energy.

Mijo Sanchez takes the Local Selection series into darker territory, delivering a tightly wound journey through murky atmospheres and coiling tension.

With close to a decade behind the decks, Sanchez has become one of Galway’s driving forces and mainstays within the city’s club culture, building a reputation through residencies, club appearances and a commitment to keeping the techno candle burning through the night. His sets move between Acid Techno, Electro, 00s-adjacent Tribal Techno and Trance, a concoction shaped through years spent on the dancefloor.

As the founder of Rave Culture Galway, Sanchez has also played an active role in developing the city’s underground community, creating a platform for local DJs and artists while bringing a wider range of electronic sounds to the region.

Behind the decks, his approach remains open, with little interest in being pigeonholed by a single sound or aesthetic. He moves fluidly between genres, always maintaining an overwhelming sense of forward motion. Over the years, he has appeared at venues including Electric, Club Cuba, The Cellar Underground and The Loft, alongside a range of independent club nights and events.

His contribution to the Local Selection series leans into dark, twisted and hypnotic techno - deep, dynamic and murky. Sanchez flexes his command of the decks through a sense of utter control, an essential quality when pushing this style to its maximum intensity.

The tracks are clean yet dark, creating a tunnelling sensation that draws you through meandering atmospheres and coiling textures. Sanchez holds these dynamics tightly, manipulating them with precision and keeping the tension perpetually on a knife’s edge without ever allowing it to spill over. The result is a tightly controlled journey that remains dizzying the full way through.

Local Selection 316 is soundtracked by Dublin duo Heftie, who share a one-hour journey through high-octane, warped-out hypnotism and heavy low-end pressure.

Heftie are an underground electronic music duo from Dublin, crafting a raw, euphoric sound driven by heavy bass, hard-hitting drums and restless energy. Drawing from garage, house, electro and dubstep, their productions sit within a buckled UK hardcore continuum, constantly shifting between influences while looking firmly towards the future.

For this mix, the duo draw inspiration from recent time spent in Barcelona and the UK, weaving together dark textures, heavyweight bass and Latin-infused rhythms. Rather than following a fixed formula, the set evolves organically, building a dynamic atmosphere from the pair’s wide-ranging influences. There’s a physicality to their approach.

Low frequencies sit at the centre, while tough drums, warped textures and euphoric melodies create a sense of constant forward momentum. The result is a juxtaposed, unpredictable journey that moves between pressure, euphoria and hypnotism, one that asks you to leave your expectations at the door.

i decided comes through with a rough, twisted take on techno. The EP moves between driving rhythms, abrasive sounds and more unexpected, off-kilter moments, keeping things varied without losing its edge. This week’s Local Selection comes from Elektra, formerly known as CATZA, the new project of Irish DJ and producer Catherine Verzanova. Bringing a fresh approach to the space between house and techno, she builds a deep, enveloping sound that sits towards the hypnotic end of the club spectrum.

Originally from Wicklow and now part of Dublin’s electronic music scene, Verzanova has played at venues including Index, Sound House, Pawnshop and The Racket Space. Her sets move fluidly between house, deep house and techno, drawing on the space between genres to create something rhythmic, atmospheric and immersive.

As Elektra, her productions take a deeper, more hypnotic direction, combining dub-infused textures, rolling grooves and spacious sound design. Nature, shifting landscapes and weather are recurring points of reference, with their changing moods informing the emotional character of her music.

Her Local Selection mix leans fully into this territory. Vast rolling grooves, dubby chords, lingering atmospheres and tense, meandering strings gradually converge into a dense and immersive whole. Rather than relying on obvious peaks and drops, the mix allows its individual elements to bleed into one another, creating a sense of movement that feels greater than the sum of its parts. The result is a carefully constructed journey through deep, spacious club music, where rhythm, texture and atmosphere continually shift and interact.
