- This week’s Local Selection comes from burgeoning young artist JOR, who weaves potent strains of trance, techno and bounce into a high-energy package that nods to the past while looking towards where the sound can go next.
JOR has been making his mark on Ireland’s rapidly evolving club landscape, with a growing presence across the country and a sound that brings together techno, trance and hard bounce into something built for high-intensity moments. His productions channel a pacey, euphoric and physical energy, leaning into the tension-and-release dynamics that sit at the heart of a great dancefloor record.
With millions of streams across platforms and growing support from DJs across the world, JOR is quickly establishing himself as a producer with a sharp understanding of what makes a dancefloor move. His rise has been matched by an increasingly recognisable approach behind the decks: fast, forceful and unrelenting.
For his Local Selection mix, JOR brings together nostalgic trance influences with the raw energy of modern hard dance, moving through euphoric melodies, driving rhythms and high-impact bursts. Fast-paced and dynamic, the mix captures the tenacity that has become a defining feature of JOR’s sound, both in the studio and behind the decks.

Web: www.fourfourmag.com/ - Sharpson returns with a Trance infused Speed Garage banger: Taste.
The Irish-born, London based producer has drawn inspiration from classic trance acts such as Tiesto, Chicane and Underworld and brought it to the contemporary landscape of modern dance music with a high tempo Speed Garage bassline.
Moving away from his usual Jungle and Breakbeat influences, Taste harkens back to his formative years as a Trance-lover growing up in Dublin City. The arpeggiated melodies and repetitive vocals sit this track would nicely fit in with the early 00’s Ministry of Sound and Gatecrasher compilation albums which formulated the producer’s love for electronic music growing up.
In terms of releases, the multi-genre producer and DJ has seen releases on the likes of Dirtybird, Solamente, Snatch! and more recently Southpoint and Hot Cake’s Breakbeat sister label Hardcore Energy. Notably, his tracks find support from luminaries like Skream, KiNK, Nastia, Four Tet, Deborah De Luca, Ed Solo, Riva Starr, Spartaque and have found a home on platforms such as BBC Radio1, Rinse FM, Boiler Room, HÖR, Ministry of Sound and more.
Taste drops on the 28th of August on his label, Choki Biki Records.

Web: www.fourfourmag.com/ - For the latest edition of our Local Selection series, we welcome Dublin DJ Dylan Shields, aka The Dogfather, to the mix with a spinning selection of smoggy house cuts.
At just 21 years old, Dylan has been behind the decks for nearly three years, developing a sound rooted in house music with a growing pull towards darker, deeper territory. His approach is as much about the people around the music as it is the music itself. Placing community, friendship and creating shared experiences at the heart of what it means to be a DJ.
Dylan cites Dublin scene pioneer Eric Brown as a major inspiration, highlighting his selfless approach to supporting those around him and making sure everyone has a place at the table. That same ethos runs through Dylan’s own perspective: being part of the scene, rather than simply being in it, and recognising that the moments away from the decks can be just as important as those behind them.
Alongside DJing, Dylan has recently begun developing his own productions, with a recent release on Foundations Records and more new material in the works for the months ahead.
For this Local Selection guest mix, the young selector delves into murkier, more hypnotic realms of house, weaving together cavernous rolling rhythms, descending chords, string sections and two-stepping grooves. It’s a heads-down approach, with each track melting seamlessly into the next to create a cauldron of smouldering, gnarly sounds. a mix you can sink your teeth into, before slowly finding yourself submerged in the dark, hypnotic ether.

Web: www.fourfourmag.com/ - Karlaa soundtracks Local Selection 311, bringing her lifelong connection to rave culture to the mix for a high-energy power hour.
Hailing from Galway, Karlaa is a 29-year-old DJ who has spent the past two years carving out her place within Ireland’s club culture circuit. Her musical palette leans towards high-octane sounds, unapologetically anchored in the emotional side of rave, a sound shaped as much by nostalgia as it is by the harder, more futuristic and contemporary edges of trance.
Coming from a family heavily involved in the ’90s rave scene at the peak of the free party movement, she was raised on the music, energy and culture that defined a generation of underground dance music. Those early influences remain at the core of her approach to DJing today.
Her selections are driven by momentum, with big melodies and tougher rhythmic elements working together to create sets that feel both euphoric and relentless. There is a clear nostalgic thread running through her sound, but rather than simply recreating the rave music she grew up with, Karla uses those references as a foundation for something distinctly current.
That balance between nostalgia and progression is central to Karlaa’s approach. Her music draws on the freedom and intensity of rave culture while embracing the sounds and aesthetics of a new generation of electronic music. The result is a DJ style that feels equally connected to the past and the present — high-energy, emotional and made for the dancefloor.
For this Local Selection Mix, Karlaa brings that perspective into the mix, moving through hard-edged trance, euphoric melodies, acid and bounce. It is a snapshot of where her sound is heading: driving, nostalgic and unapologetically rave-focused.
