This story is Baldwin's adaptation of the classic proverb about how small oversights lead to catastrophic consequences. It begins with a simple failure: a missing horseshoe nail. Because the nail is not replaced, the shoe loos't hold; because the shoe fails, the horse stumbles; because the horse is lost, the rider cannot deliver a crucial message; and because the message never arrives, an entire battle—and kingdom—is lost.

"The Plymouth Express Affair" by Agatha Christie"
Episode Summary
Agatha Christie's The Plymouth Express Affair (first published in 1923) is one of Hercule Poirot's early and tightly‑plotted murder mysteries. The story begins when a young naval officer discovers the body of a woman hidden beneath a seat aboard the Plymouth Express train. The victim is Florence Halliday (also known as Mrs. Rupert Carrington), daughter of wealthy American steel magnate Ebenezer Halliday. She had been traveling to a weekend house party carrying jewels worth a small fortune — jewels that are now missing.
Halliday summons Poirot, who quickly realizes that the case involves more than a simple robbery. Florence's estranged husband Rupert Carrington, deep in gambling debt, appears to have motive. So does Count de la Rochefour, a charming but unscrupulous adventurer who once courted Florence and recently attempted to rekindle the romance. Both men seem plausible suspects — yet Poirot suspects that the truth lies in the details of Florence's last train journey, her sudden change of plans at Bristol, and the testimony of her maid, Jane Mason.
