18.08.2026 | 29 Min.A time will come, the Prophet ﷺ said, when people gather in the masjid and there isn't a single believer among them.
Dr. Omar Suleiman unpacks that warning alongside several others: mosques built to compete rather than to function, mushafs that grow more beautiful while fewer people actually read them, and a Companion who wept after watching someone recite the Qur'an for payment.
This episode of Signs of the Hour asks a harder question than whether our masjid is beautiful enough. It asks whether there's still a living faith inside it.- We live in a culture where every slight can become a microaggression, every disagreement can feel like an attack, and “protect your peace” can sometimes mean cutting people out the moment they make us uncomfortable.
But what happens when we lose the ability to overlook?
The Prophet ﷺ described the believer as samhaa—someone who is gracious, easygoing, and willing to let things go. This doesn’t mean tolerating abuse, ignoring oppression, or refusing to set necessary boundaries. It means learning to distinguish between genuine harm and the ordinary friction of living with imperfect people.
In this khutbah, Dr. Omar Suleiman explores what Islam teaches us about sensitivity, boundaries, forgiveness, and the forgotten strength of overlooking—and asks us to consider whether we’ve made ourselves too quick to take offense, cut people off, and slow to forgive. Safwan ibn al-Mu’attal (ra): Slandered for Helping A Woman | The Firsts | Dr. Omar Suleiman
10.08.2026 | 16 Min.Safwan ibn al-Muattal (ra) was a Bedouin warrior from Banu Sulaym, trusted with the most exposed job in the army: staying behind everyone else to make sure no one got left in the desert. When he found the wife of the Prophet ﷺ alone and asleep, left behind by accident, he said exactly one sentence the entire journey back to Medina.
That silence should have protected him. Instead, it became the center of one of the most damaging rumors in early Islamic history, and he was never even asked to defend himself before it spread.
What the Prophet ﷺ said about him, and what he let Safwan (ra) do to the man who started the rumor, is not what you'd expect.
Discover the story of the companion history almost left out of his own scandal, the cost of being slandered while doing exactly the right thing, and what the Prophet ﷺ's response teaches about restoring a man's honor without ever needing him to ask for it.- A tension has opened up in Muslim communities: Is it right to talk about salah, hijab, or personal worship while Gaza is under siege and Al-Aqsa remains under occupation? One camp says centering these "smaller" matters right now is a distraction. Another says losing sight of them in the name of bigger issues comes at its own cost.
In this khutbah, Dr. Omar Suleiman directly addresses the hierarchy of priorities in Islam, and where both camps may be missing something the other has right. The aim isn't to pick a side, but to reconcile what preservation of faith and standing for justice actually require of a Muslim in this moment.
